hitched recap

My pushy friend Erica has been hassling me for not sharing enough pictures of my work, so I thought I'd might as well get around to that there Hitched recap.  I guess I'll skip the awesomeness that was the party since it's already been all over the internets but I will say that my favorite part was the Aqualilies.  Synchronized swimming to girly music =  YESYESYESYESYES.

So on to my table!  Hitched doesn't have normal bridal show style vendor booths - instead, designers were teamed up to design a tablescape of their choice. Ashley Meaders and I created a table inspired by the softer, girlier side of desert resort living - think hammocks and sunshine, lazy days and short girly dresses.

Ashley made all of these gorgeous lace chandeliers that we hung above the table.  For my part, I wanted the flowers to look lacy too so I used tons of tiny intricate blooms like jasmine, acacia, feverfew, and brunia.  I wanted to make floral placecards, and Ashley made the most perfect name tags to go on my teensy bouquets.  It was a good collaboration - we're both very into the details.  I loved Ashley's genius idea to use kerosene lamps instead of candles.  They were so pretty.

That gorgeous wooden table and some of the chairs were on loan from found {who I can't say enough good things about}.  The other chairs were vintage wooden folding chairs that I stenciled a lace pattern on to.

Here are a few more closeups of the flowers I took in the studio before heading out to Palm Springs:  I had 10 or so mini arrangements, a bridal bouquet to  hang out at our table, and a pair of bouquets for the fashion show as well:

spreading some sunshine

I have been trying to edit together the pages for a new portfolio, and it has come to my attention what an abominable blog slacker I am.  Not that I didn't already know, but you know. .  . now I'm really feeling guilty.  So many images never shared.

Which brings me to this wedding, from last July.  Kate and Justin wanted a rainbow of colors to go with their cobalt blue base color.  You may have noticed I'm no wallflower when it comes to bright colors, so naturally I was excited.

Isn't that big orange dahlia spectacular?  I'm fiercely missing dahlias these days.  So excited for them to start back up in a few months.

Kate and Justin got married at Wayfarer's chapel, with a reception at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach.  These photos were taken by the lovely April Smith {who was also a doll for being so generous with her images - I love that}.

I very rarely use gerber daisies.  I worked in a regular retail flower shop for over a decade, so there are some standard flowers {I'm looking at you, lilies} I never ever voluntarily use anymore.  But sometimes?  You've gotta give it up for gerbers.  Especially when the wedding palette is a rainbow.  Just try not to smile at this.  What, do you not like puppies or ice cream either?  It's a rainbow!
